Mark was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Wabash College in 2000 and from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis, with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 2003. He has been admitted to the Indiana State, Northern Indiana and Southern Indiana Federal Districts since that time. Mark began his career serving both Marion and Cass Counties as a Felony Deputy Prosecutor from 2003 to 2007, completing thirty felony jury trials. He still selectively takes on criminal defense cases today.
However, for the past 13 years, Mark has focused on civil litigation for Starr Austen & Miller, LLP and has tried many cases for plaintiffs and defendants. He has presented at legal seminars for other attorneys and insurance company in-house staff on construction law insurance coverage, personal injury and contractual dispute issues. Mark’s litigation skills have been recognized on the state level. For example, Super Lawyers selects attorneys using a patented multiphase selection process where peer nominations and evaluations are combined with independent research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis. The objective is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel. Mark was selected as a 2014, 2015, 2016. 2017 Super Lawyers Rising Star which is awarded to only 2.5% of Indiana lawyers under age 40. In 2020, Mark was selected as a Super Lawyer in the Civil Defense Litigation section for the State of Indiana which is awarded to only 5% of all Indiana lawyers.
Mark is the Past President of the Cass County Bar Association and a member of the Indiana State Bar Association. Locally, he volunteered as Vice President of the Logansport Jaycees, Mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters and served two terms as a Board member of the Cass County United Way and Appropriation Committee. Currently, Mark lives in Cicero, Indiana where he serves as Vice President of the Hope Family Care Center, a Cub Scout leader and soccer coach.
